30plusstyle: Trending, Dress Over Pants

Dress City Chic-here and here, Pants-Talbots, Shoes-Khol's,

It’s time for another edition of #30plusstyle and this time we are discussing “Trending, Dresses over Pants”. This time around was a complete and total challenge for me. Though I am not one to shy away from trends, I fully believe that some things are better left for either celebrities or editorial pieces. Pairing a dress with pants is definitely one of those trends that I would never try on my own.  Actually that’s not entirely true, in middle school I used to wear baby doll dresses over bell bottoms all the time. I cringe when I look back at pictures to this day and ask my Mom why she didn’t put a stop to my madness.

I went around and around on this look and took several pictures but nothing quite felt like me. I didn’t know why I couldn’t get it together with this challenge, and then I came to the conclusion that it didn’t fit into my personal aesthetic. Year after year we are bombarded by so many new trends to try, that it’s hard to be okay with one not fitting into your personal style.  I often feel less fashionable or like a fuddy-duddy when I don’t understand or want to try a trend.  Despite my personal feelings about this I knew the show must go own and I had to find a way to create a look that was indicative of my personal style and that made me happy.

After many tries I paired my versatile City Chic dress with a pair of skinny pants and my all-time favorite neon pumps! Finally I was happy with this look and thought I could rock this out one night or too dinner with friends! So what do you guys think of skirts or dresses over pants? I know Beyoncé was recently seen in them but does that change your feelings?

This challenge we have a guest blogger Els from XLfashionfile!!! We are looking for guest bloggers to join us on a future 30plusstyle post, for consideration contact us at 30plusstylecollab@gmail.com and be sure to include your blog's URL.

Holy Fringe...

T-Shirt-Old Navy-Straight Size and Plus, Skirt-Forever 21, Shoes-Old(Similar), Sunnies-Target

In the process of cleaning out my closet I found this skirt that I got from Forever 21years ago!!! I seriously don’t think I’ve worn it except for on my 31 or 32 birthday. Honestly I thought I had given it away years ago, but was pleasantly surprised that it was still in the abyss of my closet.  I threw it on with my new graphic t-shirt from Old Navy to grab drinks and dinner with my friends.  It was a perfectly good reminder to re-wear, re-purpose, and re-style a motto that I am going to take into the fall.

Speaking of cleaning out my closet I am getting everything together to launch a closet sale! Hopefully it will be up and running by this weekend! I hope you all visit and shop away!!!

Belk Fall Fashion Preview "Find Your Fabulous"

It’s super hard to believe that fall is right around the corner, were ever did summer go?!?!?! A few weeks ago I got into the fall season when I attended Belk’s fall fashion preview event “Find Your Fabulous”.  Arlene Goldstein, a major force in the Southern Fashion Scene, hosted the wonderful event discussing the trends that Belk is focusing on for the upcoming season! Belk has declared that “Fall Fashion has a Flair for Extremes with a Spectrum of Style Statements”. They department store is highlighting the extremities in statement jewelry, embellishments, skirt lengths and clothing materials.

To help you maneuver through the fall trends the team at Belk developed a Most Wanted list for Fall 2014:

Soft Pant
Longer Skirts
Creative Cardigans
Novelty Vest
Fashion Sweatshirt
Tunic Top
J Midi Length Sheath Dresses
Statement Necklaces
Over the Knee Boots
Satchel Bags

One of the most important aspects I found about this list was that many of the items are a continuation of what was important last fall. As I navigate through the seasons it’s important for me to find out what translates from season to season! I am especially starting the hunt early for wide calf boots since I didn’t get any last season.  Are there any fall trends are you looking forward to trying this fall?

Synchronized Skirts

Skirt-Eloquii, Crop-Forever21 Old (Similar), Shoes-Zara-(old)

Earlier in the Spring I remember Georgette (Grown and Curvy Woman) and I lamenting over wanting a variety of skirt shapes that weren’t being offered in plus sizes. We were both really frustrated by what was missing from the market. But as soon as we spoke it seems like several designers started too offer it. I count Georgette as one of my constant skirt inspirations, she wears them so well!  We both loved this skirt and decided to buy it when it hit Eloquii's site. She and I decided to post this skirt together and display our varying styles.  It’s always fun to partner with another blogger to show how you wear the same piece with different spins.

I have wanted this striped Eloquii skirt since I saw it on their Instagram page and vowed it would be mine. What’s not to love about it?!?!? It’s striped, it’s flared, and it’s the perfect length for work or play. It was an instant, without hesitation purchase for me. I can think of a million ways to wear this and I guarantee that you will see this skirt again! I dared to pair it with a crop top this time around since the skirt was so high wasted I knew I would feel comfortable with a crop top on.

This summer I have been thoroughly been impressed by the variety and the quality of Eloquii’s skirts.  After purchasing several of their skirts I can say each skirt is on trend, great quality and the fits are amazing. I look forward to their fall collection! My wallet on the other hand does not.

Head over to Grown and Curvy Woman to see what Georgette has to say about our beloved skirt!
