Denim Daze

Vest-The Limited (Similar here and here) Jeans-Torrid, T-Shirt-Forever21, Shoes-Asos(Sold Out) Similar, Necklace-Bauble Bar

One of the most vivid shopping memories that I have as a teen was shopping for jeans with my Mom. It was 1994, I was a sophomore in high school and I longed to have a pair of medium wash bootcut jeans from the Gap. At that time Gap jeans were premium denim and everyone had a pair. In the nineties if you were fat and fashionable you were pretty much out of luck. Plus-size jeans were boxy, hard and they came in terrible washes. I, always willing to be innovative with my wardrobe, wore men’s jeans. They were soft, generously cut and they came in all types of washes. I never minded that they had a button fly and didn’t quite fit my hips, I was happy to achieve the look I wanted.

Flash forward to today and there are more jeans styles available in plus-sizes than I ever thought possible. As I was recently cleaning out my closet I realized I had become something of a denim hoarder. My teenage self comes to life and has an irrational fear of not having the right pair of jeans. So I buy any and every pair that fits well. It’s like a tiny victory for a 14 year-old girl who cried on her mother’s shoulder, because buying old lady jeans was her only option.

I am grateful for how far plus-size clothing has come. I am grateful that teenage girls have options and they no longer have to endure the craziness that I went through. I am grateful that I have my choice of denim these days.

What’s your relationship with denim?

Closet Comfort...

Denim Shirt-Old (Similar), Skirt-Leknuf, Shoes-Old(Similar), Sunnies-Target

Sometimes I find my closet to be extremely overwhelming. Me being a “shopaholic”, I have far more pieces than I know what to do with. I know there are far worse problems, so I won’t complain.

When I start to feel this way I rely on a few of my favorite pieces to get me through. Pieces that invigorate my senses and make me fall in love over and over again. Easy pieces that are effortless matches with everything else in my closet. I like to pair my trusty favorites with an exciting or bright and colorful pieces that I have collected over the years. This time I wore my favorite denim shirt with my Ankara skirt and leopard pumps.

I was out and about wearing this look and I couldn’t help but twirl around smiling at everything. Usually that’s a clear indication that I Iove what I’m wearing. So does anyone else get overwhelmed by your closet? What do you do when you feel that way?

PopSugar OPI Hawaii Color Challenge Plus-Size Edition

Blazer- Eloquii(Sold out in this color), Pants- Eloquii, Necklace-Kara Ross, Shoes--DSW and Similar

Lately my wardrobe has seemed so void of color! Most of my looks have consisted of a lot of black, white and navy. So when I was invited to do the Plus-Size edition of PopSugar’s OPI Hawaii color challenge I jumped at the chance to wear something exciting and vibrant. So my chosen color was orange cream!

I bought this suit from Eloquii in hopes it would put me in a spring mood and it did not disappoint! If I am boing honest with y’all I was a little afraid that the color would be outrageous, but once I got it I realized it was orange perfection! Keeping the bright color theme going I paired the suit with a statement necklace and shoes that pulled everything together.

Joining me in this Challenge are 12 amazing bloggers! Please go and check out their looks:

Leopard Coat Love... The Spring Version

Jacket-Ann Taylor, T-Shirt-Old Navy(similar), Jeans-NYDJ, Shoes-Khols

One of the things I miss the most as the weather gets warmer is loss of outerwear. I love a good topper and the finished feeling it lends to any look. Have you ever thrown on jeans and t-shirt and felt like it wasn’t enough? Well throw on a jacket and see if that doesn’t make you feel more pulled together.

On a random late night shopping trip I found this light weight leopard jacket at Ann Taylor. I was ecstatic that they still had it in an XXL (Sorry they are sold out online now), and jumped all over it when they had a 40 off sale! I felt very grown up when it arrived, the material is amazing and I know I can wear it for so many years to come! We headed out to lunch and I threw this jacket over jeans and a t-shirt and I instantly felt polished and well dressed.

Does anyone else feel this way about outerwear or is it just me? What makes you feel pulled together?

What to Wear?!?!?!?

Pants -Eloquii(similar), Shirt-Old Navy(Similar), Shoes-DSW

I can’t keep up with the ever changing mood of this transitional weather. One minute it’s cold and the next it’s hot. Last week it was in the 40’s this week it’s pushing 80. It makes it really hard to get dressed. So for most of my days I have been settling on a great pair of pants and a lightweight shirt.

When I laid eyes on these pants from Eloquii I knew I had to have them, and I think all of you did too because they are totally sold out. When it was colder out I paired them with my favorite sweater and sneakers. But know that it’s a little warmer I love it with this silky, button down utility blouse.

I know several people are afraid of scuba material, but don’t be! The material is plus friendly. It has a great stretch without sacrificing structure. Scuba is also extremely comfortable and that's a plus in any situation.

What’s getting you guys through this transitional season? Or has the weather settled where you are? If so know that I am extremely jealous!
