Risky Business...

Tunic, Boots, Sunglasses, Clutch-Similar

A few weeks ago  I was having a twitter conversation with someone about how my taste in clothing has changed with my age. Though I don't think it's entirely because of my age, but defiantly more about where I am in life. I spend most of my time working, so naturally most of my clothes are work clothes. The conversation did make me think a little bit more about how my age was changing my view of my wardrobe. Was I taking less risk? Have I gotten boring? Do I now view clothes as age appropriate or not? I shuddered at the thought of some of these questions, but realized that some of them weren't as bad as other and I have in fact not gotten boring. I clearly don't mind taking a risk with my wardrobe, but it has to be the right risk.

Enter said risk, this amazing white tunic from Ashley Stewart. When I saw it I knew I had to have it. Initially I was going to wear it with a pair of leggings, but when I scored these over the knee boots from DSW I knew I was leaning towards ditching pants. I won't lie and say the thought that I may be too old for this didn't cross my mind, then I quickly reminded myself that J.Lo was 10 years older than me and she is constantly forgoing pants (LOLOLOLOL). So I went for it. This tunic is cut on a wider, high low style that I love. It's perfect for layering (or not layering) over a pair of pants or even a skirt.

So what do y'all think? Do you think your age reflects in your wardrobe choices?

Thank you for reading,

J

  1. I think age has definitely affected my fashion choices. I'm careful because I don't want to look matronly.....that makes it look like you have simply given up!
But, being in my early fifties, I don't want to foolishly emulate the teenagers. Dignity and elegance is more important to me now. I still want to project warmth and humor as well.

    1. Thank you so much @CozysCreation! I think your style ideas are totally spot on! I typically go with things that I am comfortable with and don't think about my age. Finding the ways that looks work for you or fit into your life is definitely key.

    1. Hey Shereice, it is definitely thick enough for me. Just to be cautious I wore skintone underwear with it.

  7. LOVE! I would definitely wear this! Rushed to the site to get it but it was sold out. I take more risks now I think, much more settled in my style and my confidence so in that way yes, age affects my style.

    1. Oh no Juliette! I know they still have them in store! I saw them at mine yesterday if there is one near you. I agree that I am way more settled in my style as well! So I think that my age has helped me with that. Great point!

  8. My style is still confused at the ripe old age of 34. LOL I work and now with a toddler, who, by the way, loves to cover me in his love...and by love, I mean any food on his hands and mouth....so I'm usually in yoga pants. BUT, with that said, when I shop, I do tend to gravitate towards more...umm, modest options. I just hope I don't become one of those moms that wears cardigans ALL the time.

    1. LOLOL... Mom or not I think we all have creature comforts. I just had to throw away my safe shoe options cause I was stuck in a rut with them. It's so easy to do. Sometimes I think my style is totally confused or I think it's too settled. I am curious to see how it continues to evolve.

  9. Being closer to my mid thirties I do think a play it much safer now than I used to...I love playing with color and prints but I do tend to stick to what I love and what I know looks great on me. In my 20s I wasted lots of money buying things for the sake of being trendy or risky but now I just buy/wear what's comfortable for me and practical for my day to day life as my club/party days are pretty much over.

  10. Love this look J. As a 45 year old woman, I love fashion and for the most part just go with how I feel. As I have aged & the options have improved, I am definitely enjoying it more and being more creative.

  11. I know I'm late to this party, but I do think that my age has changed the way that I dress. As a 40-y.o. I am so deeply concerned with the quality of my clothing, that I will spend way more than before to ensure that a piece is made well and flatters my figure. I know there has been a "F#$& Flattering" movement going on in the PS community, and truthfully, it makes me cringe. But, I'm not one to judge, so I stay in my lane. I wear what I love and am decidely trendy, but I am always sure to "grow my look up" to ensure I look good to me. I do not envy the teens/20 somethings I see, and I feel good doing what I love.
