A Guide To A Stylish Plus Size Life

Shapeless Summer

Dress, Shoes-Old (Similar & Similar), Sunnies, Bag-Old(Similar)

When I go shopping I don't think about rules, trends or many times what I need in my closet. My most successful shopping trips come from the feelings I get when I see a certain item. If it brings me joy then I know I must have it.  Lane Bryant dropped their spring/summer lookbook when it was still cold and dreary out, but instantly I knew this dress would be mine. Muted color patterns and oversized shapes make me extremely happy.

It was absolutely no surprise to me as I trying on the dress that the sales associate said not a lot of women are buying this one. I looked at her and said let me guess afraid that they will be seen as bigger? She laughed and said yep. I wish I could stand on a table and say  no matter if I wear a black body con dress everyday of my life I am still going to be and look like a size 22/24. It's sad that so many plus-size women relegate themselves to only wearing one shape or one type of clothing. This summer I challenge everyone to try something slightly oversized, shapeless or drapey. It could be completely life changing, or nah.

My mission to collect as many comfortable, pretty, oversized sundresses is totally on. I wore this dress for 8 hours and didn't have one complaint, except that it didn't come in any other colors. LOLOL.

So my lovely readers, how do you feel about oversized, shapeless frocks? I would love to know!

Thank you for reading!

  1. I feel like I am reading a page from my own book. I saw this gorgeous dress among many others that LB came out with and it was a strong contender, but unfortunately I could not buy them all (darn budget always gets in the way!) I do however have several garments in dresses and tops that have that loose flowy cut. I LOVE them! It is not to hide my body but rather add a fun new silhouette to my closet among the many other. Your message is so true though and you wrote it wonderfully! This dress looks amazing on you.

    1. Thank you so much Jeaneane! Wouldn't it be amazing if we didn't have a budget. LOL. They stop me from buying so much, fortunately I caught this one on 40% off. I love adding new shapes to my closet, especially in the plus size world when we often don't get new shapes.

  2. I love this dress on you and I would love it on me. I shoot for comfort as well. The colors are great. I love anything with yellow in it. All I can do is echo what you said.

    1. Thank you Kewanee! This dress is so amazing. I love it. Comfort is king in my world. I think I'm too busy to be running round total uncomfortable during the day. LOL.

  3. I am all for comfort dressing. I have yet to find a maxi-dress that looks nice on me. I am going to try on more maxi's because of this post. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Atiyah! I hope you find one that works. They can be slightly hard to find but once you find the right one it's worth it. I will admit that I have a tiny advantage since I have long legs.

  4. It always boggles the mind when people worry so much about how they appear to others! I agree with you - the overriding question should be "do I feel good in this?" And then be sure to surround yourself with positive image. Love this dress on you!

    1. Me too Juliette, but I also think it's slight human nature. I totally agree that the main question is how do I feel in this look? How does I respond to it, but alas many people get dressed for others and not for themselves.

    2. It can also be hard because we KNOW that heavy women get judged more for their fashion choices, and that judgment can have real consequences (harassment from strangers, loss of job opportunities, "helping" from relatives and friends). So I am all about prioritizing "do I feel good in this?", but I try not to judge somebody who is still in the process of getting there. (: For me personally, I big part of getting to that point is surrounding myself with positive images (as juliette suggested), hence me following this blog! (:

  7. YES to embracing baggy clothes as a big lady! It took me literally decades to realize I love flowy tunics, which I am now ALL ABOUT.

Also this "neutral with a dash of sunshine" color palette looks really great on you!

  8. THANK YOU for this post! I just found your blog through today's Eloquii email, and I'm so happy I did. I actually prefer wearing looser clothing cause of its comfort and overall femininity. Lol, it's actually harder for me to find clothing that's close fitting that I actually like #bohochicforlife But thank you again for the post, you just got yourself a new fan!
